health and finance insurance matter [Jan. 5th, 2010|01:05 am]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

Hi All,

I'm incredibly frustrated. And,I'm not sure if I'm in the right place. (I saw a description saying that this community is about physical and financial health.) And with work majorly messing up my insurance both are messed up right now.

October was open enrollment for health insurance at work. I filled out all of the paper work correctly, checked to make sure the secretary had it. Asked her twice about getting my copies of it back. (First she wasn't done with them. Then, she forgot and sent them to the Central Office downtown.)

From November 1st, they have deducted money for vision, dental, and life insurance. (These are from a separate company and are fine.) They have also deducted an additional $120 every two weeks for regular health insurance through Aetna.

When I didn't receive my insurance cards, I called the human resources rep. I began calling her in the beginning of December. And never received a response at all. (They had e-mailed temporary dental cards only to some employees. I wasn't one of them.) Today, out of the blue, I get a dental card sent inter office mail. (It was never mailed to my house.) Everyone else stated that they had received the dental cards over a week ago, and they had gotten their Aetna cards a while ago. I called HR and asked to speak to Kathy (the rep) when I was told that she wasn't available, I asked for her supervisor-explaining that I had called repeatedly with no answer. She became available. She was quite rude though. She wouldn't answer anything and told me to call the insurance broker. I did. He said he had never gotten any paperwork for me and that I wasn't in the system. I called HR back, she said that he had a spreadsheet. I called him back; he said he never got the insurance applications. I called Aetna. They said I was never covered. And that there was no way work should have been deducting anything from my check since they weren't paying for insurance. I called everyone back and got the run around. My supervisor called. HR of course didn't answer their phone, but the broker said that if he had my paperwork faxed by 5pm, he would take care of it. HR never faxed my paperwork.

I asked if I would get my money back, or have it applied to the next few months insurance payment. (I'm not sure who's fault it was. But I wasn't covered.) The broker said that it's illegal for them to put down any other date than Nov. 1st for the date that coverage started. (But I wasn't covered than doesn't matter apparently.) I argues that it has to be illegal to falsify medical or insurance records-which is what they would be doing. And further, isn't it illegal for work to keep the money for services that were never rendered. (Although, I paid for it, insurance wasn't available to me because of a HR screw up.) I can't afford to lose this $600.

So my question is: Who's right? Can work keep the money and lie about when coverage began?
Do I have a right to have the actual insurance date recorded and my money returned?
Is there any documentation that I can cite that would support me in tomorrow's meeting with HR? And how long should I have to wait to have insurance re-instated. (It apparently wasn't a priority for them today, but I have a lump that needs to get checked out.)

Please help.

Again, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place; it seems I've run out of places to look. Thank you.

water [Jan. 1st, 2010|07:41 pm]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

Im new here and always looking for new friends! :)

This is an excerpt from an article. I have cross posted it, I hope that that is allowed...

Dehydration increases body fat! Every thing we eat our body tries to convert to glucose, it is the only fuel for our brain. Water contributes to energy storage along with glycogen. The more dehydrated you are, the more glucose remains in your bloodstream and will be stored as FAT. When your body is dehydrated it pulls water from the cells to hydrate the body. This includes your FAT cells. When your Fat cells are dehydrated your body will not use that fat for energy, instead it will use whatever fuel is readily available in the body.

So if you put in hours at the gym and aren't seeing much of a change it could be that your actually really dehydrated and no amount of activity will allow your body to use its excess fat for energy.

Not only that, but it is our kidneys job to filter toxins, waste, water and salt out of the blood stream and our livers duty to metabolize stored fat into energy. The liver however, CAN NOT WORK if the kidneys are not functioning properly. The liver must work harder and thus, metabolizes less fat.

It is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water a day. This is not enough water at all. We need water to function properly and if you're not peeing clearly and guzzlin the stuff throughout the day than you need to be drinking more.

Belated again, WEDNESDAY WEIGH IN! [May. 30th, 2009|11:11 am]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

Ok, so apparently I am horrible at actually posting on the day that we weigh in...

CURRENT WEIGHT:  about 226 (I had just eaten breakfast and remembered that I should have done it before!)

I am pleased that at least I lost SOMETHING this week. It helps that I ran out of my BC pills until I can get into the doctor and get on something new. i think the irregular hormones in the pills were affecting my energy and slowly making me gain weight, because last summer I was steadily losing before i got on them. But alas, they were all I could get with no insurance. Now I have insurance and a doctor's appt. Hopefully I'll get some help and feedback!

Another day...another rotation. [May. 11th, 2009|06:10 pm]

[Current Mood |chipperchipper]

Feel a lot better about myself since that last entry. My boyfriend sat me down and we came to the conclusion that my hormones are all whacked out since I am so dehydrated. I live in Arizona, so we are in the 100s already!

Though I am still frustrated. When I was younger I ate whatever I wanted and never really exercised, so I of course gained steady weight. Then I got to my senior year of high school and was on a dance team. It didn't ocur to me until after graduation that for as much of a workout that I was getting, I should have lost more weight.

FAST FORWARD TO NOW. I am eating way better. Not perfect, but definitely more conscious of portions and the different kinds of food. Plus I am exercising on a regular basis. Yet I still gain! Nevertheless, I will be going to a new doctor soon (since I'm new to the area) and maybe this is a thyroid issue. I just want to be rewarded for my hard work!

Sorry to write a novel, I needed to get that off my chest to people who don't KNOW me.

But on to my original point! I work at a grocery store, so temptation all around! I had been actively buying at least one banana a day instead of a scone, etc. But that was starting to burn me out, so the frugal part of our community. Grapes are on sale this time of year, so I bought a bag and stuffed it in the break room. So if I'm hungry I can snack on a few, and it's so cool and refreshing for this hot time!

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back... [May. 9th, 2009|04:07 pm]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

For the last couple months I've dealt with the craziness of my boyfriend moving in, and trying to get our life situated together. I spend most of my free time with him so I just never check my LJ groups anymore...

But this is one I think I need.

I have right back to the weight I was before I moved down here. Half the time I think I should be confident and happy with who I am, and other times I am so shamed at my poor self control. I need help, so I came back.

Slowly, and with baby steps. We bought a Wii Fit and I actually really love it. The yoga is calming and there are all sorts of exercises on there. If only I could get my overeating under control, I feel so helpless sometimes.

Plus, I wouldn't mind some friends on here...
Care to join me?

Wednesday Weigh-In! [Dec. 31st, 2008|04:54 pm]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

Happy New Years Eve!

I had my baby on monday, so I am ready to start weighing in! As of right now I am breastfeeding, so it's sort of cheating since that burns a lot of calories, but that will slow down soon.

Belated Wednesday Weight In. [Dec. 4th, 2008|09:00 pm]
Fit and Frugal - Financial and Physical Health

So I took a couple weeks off. And it seems to be rightly deserved. I just need a break from all of this. Plus, irony of ironies, I had my period on Thanksgiving. Could there be a worst time to be bloated and craving food? So I figured it probably was best not to stress myself out with that one.

Starting Weight: 222
Last Weigh In: 210.2
Current Weight: 209.4
Mini Goal (for Alex's wedding December 27): 205
Overall Goal: 140

I am so thankful to be under 210. I am making a vow to never go over 210 again.
*crosses fingers*
